Government
When it comes to our government and its doctrine, people are silenced like birds in cages
They want to be voluble and to speak their mind, but their words are made unavailing
They’re here commiserating in silence and are automatically disengaged
They can’t savor their life; can’t live in peace and are forced to sit around neutralized
Cowering in fear and not having the same rights as everyone
People of color being stunned and their heads held at the end of a gun
A government so rudimentary that it appeals to the white man
The government just as awful as when the United States first began
The mind of the oppressed isn’t indomitable
They’re attempting to speak their mind and become voluble
Maintaining vigilance and they won’t cower
Blooming like a flower in a spring rain shower
Doing the actions required to have a voice and a little bit of power
The people of color are who become devoured
They are silenced and become the wallflower
Sitting cowered in a corner by the hour
This doctrine has been the same way for ages
When it comes to our government and its doctrine, people are silenced like birds in cages

This poem was one I wrote to express my view of government and how systematic racism still exists
