An Irish House
That house on the hill,
Was my favorite place in the world.
That house on the hill
Grew me and knew me and flew me
Above and beyond all the coves and sailboats
That around the town, unfurled.
That house on the hill
Was full of laughter and books and childhood,
And taught me more about family and love,
Than a decade of schooling ever could.
The Jolly Roger, Sherkin Island, Skiberdeen
Now only pictures in my memory.
Then money became more lean,
The house-an accessory.
I blinked once.
And as I will always remember,
My house on the hill
Was gone forever.
