Believe
I chose to construct this poem in third person because, for a long time, I have been struggling with crippling depression, I wanted the reader to get an outside view. My depression weighs me down almost constantly. It seems like I am carrying a huge backpack filled with rocks that keeps holding me down. It has been an ongoing battleI have dealt with since I was a pre-teen. I thought this poem really spoke about how even though you can be projected as happy, you never know what's going on behind the curtain. Throughout my poem, I used metaphors, similes, punctuation and imagery. These devices worked for me very well because I feel like those were the devices that helped me craft my pom the best. When I tried using other devices, my poem did not flow well at all. It was choppy and short, not something I was okay with my poem being. I used metaphors because I feel like I could really express how I felt in relation to how I felt. I used similes to create concrete images in the reader’s mind if it were to be read by someone else. I used imagery to serve the same purpose. I thought this poetry unit was a fun experience to experiment with poetry and the devices. It really allowed me to generate how I was feeling without actually having to say how I felt. I enjoyed looking at all the different kinds of poems and I realized after doing this unit there are endless ways to write poetry. I also learned that writing isn’t just writing, it's creating and expanding your mind. I would also enter any contest to submit my writing, the reason I would enter a contest is because it would make me feel good knowing my writing is being read by not just me, I want my writing to be analyzed.. My feedback from my response group was all positive and helpful feedback. I feel like my response group helped me make my poem better than what I had thought the final product was going to be.
