But Not Like That
Amidst adolescence
Perception of unsuccess following you
Hauling a failed childhood behind you
Dragging along like a sled
Your hopes and dreams
Sitting still like a car in a junkyard parking lot
Waiting to be remembered
The delicate whisper of your parents words in your head
Like someone wailing at you from across a crowded party
“Live your life”
“But not like that”
Maybe we get 40 more years
Maybe we don't
Live your life in the now
Unaware of when it will be great
and when it won’t.
In the end
Who knows
The junkyard may
Become
A pleasant place to sit and gloat.
