Words
Isn’t anyone else tired of words being shoved down your throats?
Being forced into a mold that doesn’t fit, and never will?
Living a life that was decided upon by everyone but you?
Aren’t you tired of wasting hours on school?
Its only purpose, to box you into pointless categories.
Your worth being determined by a letter grade.
Your only chance at a good future and life depends on how well you recite facts.
The only reason I am here is because I knew when to hold my tongue.
My potential came from my silence.
Because unless I knew the right answer, I did not speak.
I’ve done what I’ve been told
I’ve listened to those above me, followed their example;
I’ve learned is three things
I am meant to stand straight, wear a smile, and pretend everything is fine, always.
Just like them, I’m meant to continue living in the lies built up around me since birth.
The lies that are said to protect me from the world,
But it’s only made our corrupt society's true colors burn even brighter.
