Minefield
I told my mommy that I went to store
But instead I took the path to the minefield by our rented summerhome
I looked at the sign that warned me away
And I thought to myself
“If I explode maybe someone will mistake it for fireworks”
I walked the gravel path over the moorland minefield
And when the red wine kicked in I dove from the trail
I closed my eyes, prepared to pass through the gates
And I thought to myself
“If I explode maybe someone will mistake it for stardust”
Sitting on the moor, pants covered in dust
A cloud of red in the water, circled by blood-sniffing sharks
I looked to the safety beyond the field
And I thought to myself
“If I live through this, I’ll make sure to make fireworks”
“If I live through this, I’ll make sure to shine like stardust”

Poetry is not exactly the genre I'm most well-versed in, but as I've gotten quite a few poetry collections as of late, I've gotten a more well-rounded understanding of it and a surefire appreciation of it. I hope this piece is enjoyable for more experienced poetry-readers.
