Lifeline
A dark highway
Nose pressed against the cold window
Lights streak by
Lose what you think you know
An aching tug
A hot tear drips slowly down
The road races by
Blink and breathe without a sound
Can only listen
As you guess at the silence
A storm inside
Of thoughts, hate, and violence
Hand reaches out
Grasp and squeeze this warm lifeline
Not your hurt
Your turn to give a comforting sign
