Haunting

It’s my first day
Haunting
These halls of adolescence;
Stapled
To the white floor
Since I was slaughtered like cattle.

It’s darker
Than I remember,
Blackness of a thousand nights.
Some kid plastered graffiti
On the girls’ bathroom stall
What a Picasso...
The whiteboard is tattered
Mimicking a calico cat.

It’s not that hard,
To nudge a chair,
To cart a casket of deflated basketballs,
Onto the shimmering gym floor
Scattering the cheerleaders away like pigeons

It’s weird hearing pompous laughter
Bounce down the halls.
When blood once streamed down the white, cinder-brick walls.
Because of a “troubled” one
But no one bats an eye and merely recites prayer...

But what can I preach?
I’m just a ghost…
