Water and Adrenaline
Water and Adrenaline
There is never silence as the water rushes by,
I am frozen in time as I wait for the
announcer to communicate again.
¨Swimmers step up
timers reset.Ӭ As if the announcer has
a bluetooth connection directly to my head.
I push myself onto the block
I feel the grip
on my feet. The cold air
on my body as if
trying to weigh me down.
But I know victory
Just came to town.
I sense the swimmer next to me and
understand his anticipation.
I know in my gut I know I can beat him
just give me the chance to defeat him.
Everyone’s silent
once again lingering
on the announcer who
I know is speculating.
My goggles are strapped in, strapped tight
and I know no one is going down
without a relentless fight.
Cap is on right and I am ready to plunge into
the depths of the sea as cold and as
dormant, as a deep dark night
¨Swimmers on your mark¨
The announcer commands.
I go down, bend my knees and squeeze the edge of the block.
My mind starts racing and
getting unfocused on swimming
but focused solely on jumping.
Getting ready, no anticipation,
Just pure adrenaline
keeping me going.
Everything slows as the
Beep goes, and on instinct
I push and slowly
fall
fall
fall
Away.

I started swimming for the high school team this year and I wanted to blow up my experience before jumping into the water. I wated to allow people to get a feeling of anticipation while reading my poem. My high school swim team won leagues 2 weeks back and I wanted to honor my team with the submisson of my poem.
