If Only
If Only
Dark and cold storming nights
With no sign of end in sight.
Foreshadowing the sadness and loss to come
That would make them go numb.
Numb to the point of despair.
Everyone so aware that no one has a care.
Wondering if anything could have been done.
It seems that the wondering has just begun,
All because of the loss of one.
One person,
Their attitude never seemed to worsen.
Always so cheerful and bright
One could say that they were a light.
A light that never seemed to dim,
The chances were slim.
No one knew that it was all for show.
No one knew what was below.
Below the seemly perfect exterior
Was a broken girl that thought she was inferior.
Inferior to everything and everyone,
Just wanting help from anyone.
Anyone could have saved her.
If only they had looked a little closer,
Past the happiness and light that seemed to come from her.
If only they had looked a little closer,
Maybe they wouldn’t have been left to wonder.
