Starlit Bridge

It was nothing more than a shadow in the fog

A mere second and it was gone

A glint catches a passerby’s eye

The shining dew filled grass, a figure of a person could be seen only with a spyglass

Upon the gloomy bridge sat a girl he could spy

She stared down at the dark cold water below

The pale moon had set the world to a light shade of grey, with no color to be seen

He could only wonder what had happened for her to be out feeling so low

He questioned her reality for she was only visible with an eye so keen

He wasted no time, and he set off

He wanted to find the girl, before she’d been lost

The bridge was tall and made of rock

It was home to no more than some birds of a flock

The dark lonely mood gave the lonely boy a fright

It had seemed to him that this girl had seen the light

Her long dark dress waved in the wind

It was finally time he had reached the end

He pulled his head up and he was alone

He searched desperately now feeling so low

So he sat where he saw her and picked up a small stone

He tossed it down to the place below and caught a glint in his eyes

He saw her standing in the place he was before, their gaze met for only a moment

Her dark eyes seemed to be trapped and full of torment

A moment later she was gone, she vanished into the fog leaving no trail behind

He sat there alone for a great number of hours

He gazed upon the light of the stars that came in showers

Many hours had passed

Then he saw her face at last

She was there next to him looking at the sky unaware of the time that had passed

She was colorless against the night sky, her dark pleading eyes seemed to vanish so fast

She stood there for only a moment, her dress was waving in the wind, only a short time later she vanished again into the fog

As she moved away she made no sound and left no trail

He admired how she seemed weightless, as if she was only a star in the night sky

From the moment she left, he strived to see her again, and he never did

He spoke with the lonesome stars until the sun rose, only to return to the same place the next night hoping to see her one last time.
