Where I’m from
I'm from a dead end town where everyone knows everyone in the biblical sense.
I am from the blood, broken bones, and bashed skulls of my ancestors that were drug across vast seas to be enslaved, raped, tortured, and murdered by people who called us animals.
I am from the millions that can’t track down where their family tree starts because a white man deeamed their ancestors were’nt being “good” little n*****s and sold them to the person with the best trade/ price.
I am from a nation where being black is crime punishable by death. Just ask MLK. Jr, George Floyd, Emmett Till, or Breonna Taylor.
I am from a world where grown men and women are preying on little boys and girls to turn into toys used for sexual favors.
I am from a world where parents are burying their children, instead of children burying their parents.
I am from a world where little girls take more pride in twerking than getting an education.
I am from a world where girls are more afraid of getting pregnant than catching an STD.
I am from a society that has normalized babies having babies.
I am from broken homes and broken promises. From women settling to be babymommas instead of wives.
I am from not being direct when rejecting a man out of fear of being hurt or targeted for hurting his pride/ ego.
I am from the girls and women not telling their stories out of fear of not being believed, shame of thinking it’s their fault, and pain of bringing up the awful memories of a man not understanding or caring what stop means.
But yall arent ready for these conversations yet

This is the first poem I have ever written, but once I started the first stanza I couldn't stop.
