Lock and Key
Silently, he takes the stage.
Words unspoken,
Treasures,
Locked away from the world.
Everyone knew.
Or thought they
Knew
His condition by now.
So they expected nothing
From a boy with nothing to say.
Thoughts lying dormant,
Hibernating,
For eternity.
A key of ivory.
Silky smooth,
Yet a signal arrow piercing through.
He beckons them closer, deeper
Into his unlocked heart.

This piece is about attending my autistic brother's first piano recital. Since he is non-verbal, music has allowed him to express himself freely and has given him the ability to communicate his feelings with others.
