What Does A Morning Person Eat for Breakfast
I can feel the bread crumbs that I
dropped
down my sleeve from
the hastily made toast
slathered in strawberry jam.
Not every edge is covered.
there is more jam on one side.
That’s the side I eat from.
There’s another bump from the car.
More bread crumbs fall down my sleeve.
Yesterday I had a kiwi.
The day before that I had cold lasagna
all eaten in the car as we rushed to school.
I wonder what a morning person eats for breakfast.
Maybe instead of slightly burned toast they eat
French toast with
sliced strawberries on the side.
Maybe they make themselves a towering stack of
hot waffles or pancakes, with
soft squares of butter and
ladled with sticky syrup.
Maybe they don’t like sweet stuff.
Maybe they go for a more savory taste with an
order of two eggs scrambled with a side of hash browns and sausage
or perhaps a breakfast burrito
packed with eggs, potatoes, tomatoes, and extra cheese please.
I wonder,
Do they
turn on the stove to low as to not burn their food?
Do they
use all the pots and pans plastered with sweet gooey batter?
Do they
set the table, placemat and all?
Do they
slice their pancake with a knife into equal slices?
Do they
pour themselves some orange juice or make some coffee or tea?
Do they
watch the morning news as they chew on their food?
Do they
take their time to eat??
I have no idea what a morning person eats for breakfast.
The earliest I ever wake up is ten minutes
after I was supposed to.
Perhaps, morning people
are just as lazy as I am, and
even though they’re up,
they just don’t feel like having to clean the dishes afterwards.
