It was just yesterday

The green grass with tiny droplets of water positioned carefully on each blade

Being flattened to the surface of the earth by brand-new pink sneakers

Each twirl causing a tiny bit more damage to the freshly rained-on yard

It was just yesterday

Her golden hair flowing in the wind

Spinning and twirling endlessly

A ballerina in the making

It was just yesterday

Sweet laughter the entire world could hear

Dizziness causing her to be giddy

Tumbling into the soft green yard

A pillow for her precious head

To return the favor of the company, the pillow giving her sparkling droplets for her hair

A crown fit for a beautiful princess

It was just yesterday

I joined in the fun

Her precious blue eyes, a big blue ocean

Staring up at me in admiration

Shrieking in delight as her role model comes to twirl with her

Rolling down the small hill that the pillow provided for us

Breathing in the sweet scent of freshly fallen rain

A lovely memory to accompany my days

And many more memories to fill my mind as more moments come and go

As my little girl has grown up, past the days of twirling until we couldn’t stand up straight

My precious little cousin, my little best friend

It was four years ago

But it feels like

Just yesterday

This piece was inspired by my little cousin, and the memories I share with her. I hope for people to get a warm feeling, a feeling of memories and old times, and the feeling of the outdoors out of this poem.
