Cinderella
Laughter flows through the room during the final dance,
their last chance to sway and prance to the music.
A female’s gentle hands held tightly in the man’s
feet pointed, perfect stance,
All to impress the lord of all lands.
The PRINCE,
watching as they pass in his midst.
Too quick to witness their desperation to convince
him of their wit, their competent disposition,
and the possible marital bond of their provinces.
He quits trying to find the one,
this all seemingly useless,
until she walks in
AND SHE IS IMPOSSIBLE TO MISS.
Her eyes, as blue as an oceanic abyss,
complimenting her snow white dress,
a flowing skirt with a tight bodice.
Embarrassment spreading red across her cheeks,
a small smile on her plump lips.
She glances around the room, until her gaze falls upon him.
And he is transfixed.
In the room, total silence.
Pure bliss.
Warmth now spreads through him.
Red now splayed across his cheeks, his adoration for her openly displayed since
he was first aware of her presence.
This emotion deeper than infatuation is.
One wish
of his
To hold onto this feeling before it escapes his grip.
Love like this is only believed to be found in myths.
But there is no love truer than this.
On her lips, a full smile appears,
but he can only catch a glimpse
before she turns away.
But not before she blows an inconspicuous
kiss.

I really love the ballroom scene in the 2015 adaptation of Cinderella where Cinderella and Prince Charming see each other for the first time. The silent connection that drew them together inspired me to write this poem. With this poem, I decided to challenge myself by utilizing end-rhyme and assonance. I admire how many songwriters, especially rappers, use these techniques to make their songs more impactful and memorable.
