Curiosity is...
Curiosity is an adventure into the deep, inky forest...
Small chirps of all different birds ring in my ears from all around me
Excitement floods my mind as I spot an alluring pond alive with life
Fountains stimulate many pint-sized animals’ friskiness and entrance me
But before I do anything else
The tiny beams of sunlight from above treetops dim slowly
I am unfortunately met with bitter disappointment
As the ducklings, noticing this, soon waddle away with their tiny feet
And though the furry bodies of fun had been so jolly and ready to play
They seemed just as eager to doze off at sundown
Even as they left, the various smells of each unique animal lingered at the pond
Whose reflection spoke of the memories it held there
It was then that I realized with astonishment
That each animal’s story had been etched into nature nearby
And when felt and listened closely, it would be more than happy to narrate them to you

Hi! I'm Vani V., a 9th grader (who loves reading)! I thought this poem was special because we all love playing with animals, feeding animals, but we often forget that the animals' home is truly nature. And so we cannot really understand nature the way animals do unless we mingle with them. (For example, how do they know exactly when to leave for home at night without a clock?!) This poem, for me, was a twist of both nature and animals, who are my base for curiosity, who, the more you think you know about them, the more there is to learn....!
