Remember
When you have water filling your mouth,
sloshing down your throat,
trickling streams from your faucet
at your own command;
when you complain
about the showers that provide green
to your lawn—
remember that there are kids
that pray for a lick of rain,
whose lives are underscored
by a persistent thirst.
When you groan about the
food that nourishes you—
remember that there are kids
with rib cages so defined,
you can count them through their flesh.
When you whine about your
monetary value—
remember that there are kids
working 9-5 for your spare change.
When you look at your own life
through lenses of bitterness and contempt—
remember that to be reading
this, you were gifted with an education,
millions would die for.
