I remember running
I remember running
Just running
Running past the fields
and meadows
and streams
and muddy puddles
past the burning sun
and dusty anthills
past the fresh-cut lawns
and light blue tiles
past the little glass koala sitting on a windowsill
past the garden of my own home.
I remember running
Just running
Running past highways
and cars
and tall yellow grass
past barren trees
and empty lakebeds
past the school of which I cannot go
past the place where the wild fern grows
past the swing sets
that are empty
I remember running
Just running
Running past the bright, bright yellow of a sunflower field
past a red train broken down
past stones and rocks and boulders
past the muddy brown creeks
past the sunset waters and fluttering winds
past the ruins of an oldened civilization
past the glowing lamps of a street
past the dark-smoked skies that are thick with smog
but there are some things I cannot run from.
like the big dome of sky
the winds of the earth
the sun, the moon
and all of the stars
but most of all
myself
but then I finally do
right past the bright blue horizon
