Behind These Dark Brown Eyes

My eyes are pools of dark chocolate

That are melted by the sun,

My eyes are rounded dark oak logs

That swirl with creamy brown,

When sad, they glitter,

Glisten in black,

When mad they burn,

Surrounded by fire,

When happy they crinkle,

Shine like the stars

My eyes carry me afar

Away into Neverland

Where yellowing pages fold

Where sounds of paper wrinkling

Envelope the dreary world.

The smooth delicate keys

Of a pounding piano

Chords that rise and play themselves,

Music like rich milk and honey

Arise from a trickling stream,

Three years past the present day,

Stream out from under my eyes

Sometimes I think of a blue-tinted world

Where oceans spill onto the land,

Sometimes a meadow,

A grassy green meadow,

Where birds live in the flowers

Often time passes in the snap of a finger,

How forgetful, my daydreaming eyes.

Mother’s eyes,

Father’s eyes,

Brown eyes,

Black eyes,

My eyes.
