The Years That Just Seem so Far Away
I blinked and senior year is already half over.
Will time move this fast second semester?
I pray in hopes that time travels at slower rates through the home stretch
because I will be lost with nowhere to go when I cross the finish line.
I have been stressed with loads to accomplish in such little time.
Composition, Government, and Art Appreciation are just to name a few.
I am glad these courses are finally over,
but that means one step closer to walking across the stage into the real world.
Winter break has been nice,
relaxing with nothing to really do.
Spending the holidays with family and friends,
I could not ask for anything more.
However, this calming break will eventually end.
The stress will load back on the train.
I will be packing up my backpack with loads of books once again
For the last final stretch of high school.
In a few short months, my alarm clock will buzz
waking me up for a very special day.
I will bobby pin my cap to my freshly curled hair
and put my arms through the sleeves of my gown.
It is half time of senior year whether I like it or not.
Before I know it, graduation day will come.
A diploma written with “Sydney” across it.
A day I thought would never actually come.
I will call the University of Iowa my home in the fall
where I will start on a new journey.
I am prepared for it to not be easy,
however, I am excited for where the road leads.
