Rainy Days
The day is cold and grey,
And the sky is a sheet of cloudy steel
Over my head.
It starts slow, one drop of cold landing on my head,
But before I know it,
It is a downpour.
I don’t rush inside just yet.
I take a minute to let the cool and refreshing drops
Catch me and leech the warmth from my body.
I tilt my head back to face the sky
And I watch the droplets streak down towards the earth.
I listen to the soft sound of water rushing and splashing.
I breathe in the crisp air, heavy with the scent of wet pavement and dirt.
I let a smile catch my face,
And only then do I go inside.
