The Axe and the Tree
The axe forgets,
but the tree remembers
Being chipped apart,
being torn to pieces
The tree remembers the feeling
The axe says it’s doing its job
Or that it’s being controlled
The axe says it’s tough love
Or that you need to learn
They move on from it
like it never happened
But the truth is
If it wasn’t for the axe
You’d be just fine
No chips, no broken pieces
You wouldn’t feel like
You’re about to fall,
shattering into pieces
The tree will hold every piece
the hurt, the pain
Thinking it was their fault
The tree will remember
But the axe will forget

I wrote this piece for those people who have someone in their life that will go out of their way to hurt you and then act like it never happened afterwards.
