First Kiss
With the porch light shining on my face, I stand there nervously.
You look at me with a smile and slowly start to move in.
Your hands start to cup my face and I feel my heart beating out of my chest.
I was sure you could but you pretend you couldn't hear it.
You pressed your lips onto mine and then paused to look at me.
You leaned back in only this time pulling me towards you.
Going back, I knew it was right, as I turned out the light.

Dear Poetry Editor,
I am submitting a poem entitled “First Kiss” for consideration in Teen Ink.
I am currently attending Bishop Heelan High School. I have been writing poems and fiction stories in my creative writing I class.
Please recycle my manuscript if it does not fit your editorial needs. I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Jacqueline Fox
