See You Next Year
What is it about going to the eye doctor that makes me so uncomfortable?
I used to love going!
He was a nice man
He gave me building blocks to play with
But then he left
I met a new man
He was quiet and small
He felt like a whisper in human form
He asked me strange questions
I’m sorry, I don’t know the answer
The silence in the room is deafening
What did I say wrong that made you write something down
My lip starts sweating
Which one looks better, 2 or 3
My scalp tingles
Read the first line on the paper
My legs are stuck to the seat
How many fingers am I holding up
Though I have to admire someone who went to school
Studying “Anatomy of the Eye” and
“The 3rd Volume of Soft and Hard Lenses”
Still, he shines the light in my eyes
Looks like you’re all good
Ok, see you next year.

I recently went to the eye doctor and realized how strange I feel in social situations. Maybe someone will relate and take solace in this.
