Serenade of Seasons
Memories of:
Warm vanilla scented candles, crunchy leaves,
popping acorns beneath my feet,
crispy autumn air, the smell of burning wood,
enchanting Midnight Mass,
snacks...
Comforting Harry Potter movie marathons,
the warmth of my Rottweiler laying her head on my lap,
the aroma of baked apples, grandma used to make,
bright golden-colored leaves,
and a thick wool sweater hugging me in the cool autumn air
Enter winter:
Skeletons of trees left behind as gold turns to lead
Sharp air stinging red, tender skin
Dark quiet streets as people scurry home
Peaceful solitude

I am a senior in high school. I've moved four times in four years during my high school career because of my families' military obligations, grandparents needs, etc...which sucked...lol. So, I took up art, acrylic painting, writing poetry and the bamboo flute to pass the time. I've never been published before but find that when I paint or write poetry, I don't have to think...I just come up with a pretty mess.
I wrote this poem because while everyone complains about how ugly and miserable it is outside, I see something else. I think...it's the most beautiful time of the year. Everyone scurries, hurries in with scrunched up, irritated, red faces scrambling to get out of the cold, missing the beauty, the silence, the stillness of winter. It's something to savor not to rush through. So, this poem captures the things I love about the cool fall and winter months.
