The dark night
The blood red sun shines
Rays of light across the sky
The clouds caught in the light
Turning shades of red orange and yellow
Like a bright highlight
The green grass flooded with shadows
As the sun continued to sink
The sun seemed to close
The day
And a long night was to come
The moon was on the horizon
Craters of dark grey
Dotting the dull silver sphere
Lights upon lights freckled the sky
Saying the universe is still bright
But dark black clouds arise
The color of charcoal
Filling the sky
Leaving no hole
The earth seems to be darker than ever
Even the earlier vibrant grass
Which now stands still
As if waiting, for a breeze to carry it away
The dark only seems to get darker
It seems to engulf
Everything it touches
No light is left
Nothing to light the way
The dark chill of the night
Seems to only get colder
But I wait for the light to be restored
There is nothing just one person can do
To light the way
Like to figure out a map
When it is finally understood
Not one can do the work of billions
All must take part
But alas
It seems so far away
After so much dark
And uncertainty
As the dark night carries on I sit and wait

This piece is about how powerless I feel during this time and relating it to dark nights when all the light is no longer there.
