Standing serenely on the pristine shore,

Clothes whip the skin as they fight the wind,

Toes sinking deeper and deeper into the sand,

As the greedy waves crash harmlessly.

Gazing out upon the brilliant horizon,

The colors light up the sky in a chaotic show,

The clouds are helpless to withhold its vibrance,

There for only the eye’s immediate pleasure.

The blue stretching below it seems eternal,

A mirror for the heavens and a glittering flat,

So easy to forget that a world exists below the surface,

A life humans will never naturally know.

A few steps forward reveal the disappointment,

That feet were not meant for the shimmering sea,

We sink if we do not fight its lustrous lure,

And our craving for another world could drag us under.

Beauty is a dangerous thing,

Especially paired with a vicious reality,

For when looking as the glory of the oceans,

The riptides are the farther thing from the mind.

I did this for Creative Writing and it was very much a go with the flow, in the moment piece.
