Her Highness, the Sea
There’s something about the sea
something about the one “big blue.”
Like she’s been hiding a secret forever
a secret she wants no one to know
or a secret she wants everyone to know.
It’s almost painful to sleep by the sea.
I’m convinced there’s something out there
something out there that’s calling me to her.
There’s countless myths of sirens
luring sailors to their watery deaths.
The sea herself is a siren, I’m sure.
But she’s not calling me to death
it’s like she’s calling me home.
I miss that salty smell like nothing else.
I miss the heavy humid air
that turns my hair into an untamable mess.
It’s so oddly comforting to breathe in.
And the only keepsake
until my next return
the flower pendant from the boardwalk.
