The Meaning of Silent Night
I never understood Silent Night
Why it was all calm
Calm was never the word I thought of
The day Jesus was born
Mary was crying with tears of pain and joy
Joseph was smiling at the baby he was holding
The innkeeper was staring in awe
The day Jesus was born
Weren’t the shepherds racing to see the babe?
Weren’t the wise men’s hearts aching to find what the star meant?
Weren’t the angels partying in heaven at the sight of him?
The day Jesus was born
But then I knew
That everyone felt peace
Because they knew
The day Jesus was born
So on Christmas day
Sleep peacefully
Have the same joy the people felt
The day Jesus was born
