Sit on a Bench
A seasoning of leaves on a bed of grass,
The sky a slate of gray,
With sparse rays of light bleeding through.
A faint whistle of wind,
The subtle skitter of small creatures
Among the bushes.
The midday hum of an overhead plane
Cuts through the solemn silence.
The bite of the chilled air,
Causing my skin to shrink
And extremities to recoil to the center of my body.
As I take in a deep breath of autumn,
My nose burns and I am happy.

This piece slows the flow of time in order to capture a miniscule moment in nature. It helped me to recall why I enjoy fall and the unique stimulation of the noises, sights, and sounds that are within my own backyard. Sometimes we just need to sit on a bench and exist for a little while.
