The Tree in My Backyard
The tree in my backyard,
stands tall above it all.
It provides me with shade,
And is surrounded by little grass blades.
For years I've played in its tall, thick branches,
I've fallen from high up and gotten little gashes.
But one day the tree got too big,
Men had to come by and chop it down with a rig.
The tree fell with a loud crack,
I winced at the sight and held my tears back.
Down went my tree, the one that I loved,
Along with the memories and childhood fun.
For weeks there sat a lonely stump,
And in my heart was also a lump.
Until one day I had an idea,
To plant a new tree for all to enjoy.
This little tree grew to be so tall,
And filled up my heart with happiness and all.
The tree in my backyard wasn't put there to stay.
But left me with joy and happiness every day.
