The Sentimental Night Sky
Twinkling stars appear above the boats
Drifting through the narrow canal
In Venice,
As if magic were floating in the air.
The water stirs,
Causing Raucous,
But shortly the waves grew still,
Resembling a sheet of glass.
The women dressed in flowy bohemian dresses
Dance on the bows of the boats,
Under the sentimental night sky.

Dear Teen Ink:
I have written essays upon essays for school, with peers reading my work along the way, but this is my very first time submitting my work to an outside publication.
I am submitting a 56 word poem entitled “The Sentimental Night Sky.” The piece paints the picture of a beautiful night in Venice, Italy. From the nighttime ocean breeze to the swaying skirts upon women, this piece connects to a simpler time, when normalcy was constant.
I am a current senior taking Honors Creative Writing and have taken an array of english courses throughout my middle and highschool career. In addition to writing, I love musical theatre and the performing arts in general as well as puzzles and sudoku.
I am very passionate about incorporating my huge imagination into my writing, and I hope that comes across through my poem.
Thank you for taking the time to read my submission and I hope to hear from you soon.
