Cafe Gold
City lights night cafe,
open. Gentle jazz is playing. The kind of music
that drowns you in sadness
and the blues
they accentuate the yellow,
the midnight gold
but there’s
a sense of celestial vibrance.
You see it
in the lights luminating the dark streets. You see it
in the people of the night.
Muddled in the dark
before the blushing lights,
warm and yellow greet you.
Laughter as loud as live
music. The silver stars,
holding the secrets
of the night. The gold
illuminating the blue from the night.
You return again.

This poem was inspired by Van Gogh's Cafe Terrace Night painting. It is about the speaker going down to the cafe at night when she is blue, or sad. The atmosphere and the people chases her sadness away and she returns each time she feels blue, and finds herself again.
