Garden of Love
When love ebbs away, an unexpected one returns
In the mirror it glows like the golden sun,
clean of dirt, of dust; except it is your reflection
you are glimpsing. An unexpected one returns,
“sanguine”— a charming word.
The door you are opening before
you is unsealed, the way they do
when you are free. Here’s it locked. The gate
to the flower garden waits. This key,
the most confining object in the world.
But the world’s unlocked. And through
the cracks of the gate the sunflowers and roses rise
as you did when he told you
he no longer feel the same.
