Forget
Forget what she called you.
All the names and hurtful things.
Forget what she said,
The “You’re my witness”
Or the “Call the cops, I don’t care.”
Forget what she did.
Moving you from house to house,
And robbing you of childhood.
Forget her mistakes.
Staying up all night drinking,
And smashing your gifts Christmas day.
Forget the pain she caused you,
For it is all in the past now.
Don’t forget that she is your mother,
And just because you no longer need her,
Doesn’t mean she no longer needs you.
