The Boy and Dog Played
Soft dirt shifts under every step.
Green grass blades bend and bow in the wind.
Smooth steady steps grow closer with every second.
A golden red hide becomes visible above the grass line.
In its mouth a blanket as blue as the sky.
Soon the day is filled with laughs and barks.
Rolling pulling and tugging on the sky blue blanket.
The grass gets trampled under small feet and paws.
As minutes turn to hours parents wonders turn to scours.
The bright blue sky turns from blue to orange grey.
And still the boy plays.
Grass trampled flat to the earth.
Blue blanket now brown and frayed.
And the boy and dog played.
Pitter, patter drip drop.
Rain falls plip plop.
Blanket soaking wet.
Fur mud streaked and shirt mud bleached.
And the boy and dog played.
Trail home full of puddles.
Skipping, splashing, laughing the boy and dog go.
The sky falls dark and house lights light like little candles.
The front door opens to warm welcoming arms.
Towels are given to the boy and dog.
Mud stained bodies cleaned and dried.
Beds made and boy tucked in.

This peice is a written memory of how my dog and I used to play all the time. For the most part when I had to do chores but we played like this as far back as I could remeber to days before he died.
