A storm
My feet feel frozen on the slippery deck,
I am too small to defend my ship.
Crashing over neighboring tidal waves, luring me in,
I am forced to sail through the storm.
The unmellowed sky watches the battle,
And the water has taken my crew. I am alone
coaxed into the sea’s submission.
I am not strong enough to defend my vessel, so I lie limp.
The trepidation is suffocating,
closer and closer, my destiny approaches.
My control taken from me, a captain,
As the sea guides the sturdiness of my bow towards the rigid rocks.
The water’s hands pin down my vulnerability
and I cannot steer myself to serenity.
I scream for help
Hoping the heavens might hear my confession,
But the isolated storm continues.
Stripping away my security, the thunder caresses the sacred parts of me,
And the end crash is painted in my eyesight.
How I crave the end,
just so the pain and discomfort will stop.

This piece focusses on a ship sailing into a storm that will lead to its' demise. It takes the form of something similar to a metaphysical conceit where I used a literal action to symbolize something more significant. In this poem, I focussed on sexual assault, gathering information from the MeToo movement. As more and more people came out on being victims of sexual assault, it angered me. After reading through articles and listening to stories, I attempted to empathize by capturing the feeling of losing control to something stronger than you in poetry.
