Personal Growth
Identity comes from the struggle points
Developed, crushed, dropped, and embarrassed
A positive heart guarded by disappointment
My small team valued support and respect
But shot and played through,
And shuffled through the season
Now playing in the middle position.
And gaining momentum.

The inspiration for this poem was learning experiences I have had throughout high school. Some of these experiences were challenging and they taught me how to become a better person. Basketball was one of my favorite sports to play and I used it as a metaphor. I chose a free verse poem after picking words from an essay I wrote and decided that the words flowed best unrhymed. My hopes for someone reading this poem is that they can relate to this and help find inspiration moving forward through difficult times.
