Third Time's the Charm
Last year, in Portland Oregon my family went Christmas tree hunting. Every Christmas we go tree hunting. My mom is very picky when it comes to finding the right tree. One time, we went to a Christmas tree farm; there were many trees, and lots to pick from. There were white fir, noble fir, douglas fir, and lots more. My family’s favorite trees are noble firs. When we went to cut down our trees, we found tiny clusters of rabbits nearby. We measured the tree to the height of our ceiling, so we thought! We got help from one of the employees. He gave us a chainsaw and away we sawed. When we got home, we were very excited to put it up. Once we got everything ready for the tree, we put it up and realized that the tree was too big! The next day after we woke up we went to go get another one. We finally found another perfect tree! When we got home from the second trip we were excited to get the tree in the corner of our living room. The tree fit perfectly, but my mom did not like how the top of the tree looked. My dad then got some clippers and trimmed the top. The tree looked terrible; especially after my dad got involved. It looked as though a barber had shaved a man’s hair off. My mom did not like it, so we took it down and waited until the crack of dawn to get a new one. Finally, after many failed attempts, we found a tree. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a good tree. We got home and started putting the tree on the stand. My dad and I went to go get a heavy green box that was filled with ornaments and Christmas decorations. My dad and I set the box on the floor near the tree and opened the box. We saw all the wonderful ornaments shining, glistening, and glimmering. My family and I watched as the tree shined with beautiful lights all around my living room. My dad and I chopped the wood from the other two trees and used it for a campfire. My parents were pretty upset with themselves for buying three Christmas trees but, I thought it was funny! We all laughed at the thought of cutting three tree’s but, what makes it even funnier is right before we left to cut the first tree I asked my dad with a curious look on my face
“shouldn’t we measure first?” and he said “son! I know how tall our ceiling is” the lesson we all learned that year was measure twice cut once.
