A Dancing Memory

You’re gone now.

But your memory still dances in my head.

Like how the dandelions swayed

when we laid out in the pasture

As we exchanged sweet whispers

Like the soft wind in our ears.

Your brown eyes were made of amber and cinnamon.

The perfect shade of sweet tea

When the golden sun hit them just right

As you stared into mine

I see your smile floating in the sky.

As soft as the clouds

But brighter than the sun.

It was as if your shallow dimples

Matched the ones in the moon

And your freckles were the constellations.

Your voice was smoother than chocolate,

And sweeter than the marshmallows

We’d roast together on autumn nights.

And your touch was the blanket we’d wrap ourselves in

Underneath the stars.

Safe.

Warm.

Soft.

Just as I thought our fire would never die,

You slipped from my fingers

Into the breeze of the soft night.

The wind carried your last whispers,

And the embers gave me your last kiss.

I feel when anyone goes through a breakup that little things will remind them of someone they loved or even lost. You never really realize how beautiful the small details of a person is until they're gone.
