A voice that is small
There are voices that crack and strike
Like lightning on hot pavement
That stand tall and steadfast
Like the thick trunks of oaks
And unsettle the paralyzed air
With their bolts and stretching fingers.
And there is a voice that is small
That trembles as a mere blade of grass
Or a single leaf shaking in breezes
But it dares to whisper to the air
It dares, in its firm roots and fragile skin,
And with all the strength of vulnerability.
