The Outside
The outside is nature.
The outside has gardens
ripe for weeding
With fruits and nuts on the trees
either plucked or falling off, whenever they please
The outside has parks and rivers
flowing and growing
with no end in sight
It’s evidence that this world has life
The outside is full
of birth and renewal
The rabbits,
frogs,
squirrels,
hawks,
are all living
one day at a time
The outside is human.
The outside has asphalt and concrete,
and is being torn down
and built up.
The outside is ours and theirs
our home
and their habitat.
The outside is where we find our place
ourselves.
An altered world, we make room
for the cars
boats
planes
The outside is how we survive.
The outside is neither black or white.
A drop of water in the river
is all we are
all we could ever hope to be
The outside has emotions.
The outside has a mood
that changes with the seasons
that changes with the years.
The outside can never fully be understood.
But whether we can decipher its language
is up to us.
The outside screams
of joy
and of agony.
It is unknown how this came to be.
Perhaps we will never understand.
