Perfect Past
I'm from playtime and polar bear stuffed animals,
From blackberry trees and apple picking.
I am from sand boxes and slides,
From the smell of fresh paint and wet brushes.
I'm from the dahlias and daisies,
The comfort of fresh air.
Where jumping through the sprinkler,
Was the highlight of my day.
I am from fresh fruit,
From Sydney and Ethel, Rocco and Joanna.
I'm from the brainiacs
And the abstract artists.
From Royal oak To San Diego.
I'm from bar mitzvahs and bat mitzvahs,
With my lowkey Jewish family.
I am from Yates and Franklin cider mill,
Apple salad and sweet potatoes.
From all of the metal parts in my grandfather,
to the burn on my thigh.
I'm from the thoughts of circles and squares,
Knick knacks and paddy whacks,
and vivid dreams along with family memories.
