When You're Left

Watch

Look at everyone that once stood at you side

Look as they run along a winding path

You start to chase after them,

But the path is rugged with too many twists and turns.

They all race down this path.

This path you cannot follow.

Their figures become smaller and smaller in the distance.

Your hopes drop and sink into the gravel path.

You sink into the gravel path.

Your significance in their stories fades,

And you all but disappear.

Soon those hopes set themselves aflame.

They burn on and on,

Until,

They only remain as worthless ashes,

To be swept away by the departing wind,

Then immediately,

Forgotten.

They left you behind,

Unaware of your struggle to stick by them.

Now your existence wanes in their minds,

And is gone.

Your thoughts swirl as you look for an answer.

And then,

They land on something.

You were simply dead weight in the end.

You were only dragging everyone down.

Everything was made worse by your presence.

A burden to all,

A friend to none.

Now all you can do is watch,

As you are left in the dust,

To crawl about in your own sorrow,

Down the path,

You cannot follow.

Your sorrow turns to anguish.

That anguish becomes indignation.

Your swirling thoughts become a hurricane,

Out of anyone's control anymore.

They were supposed to have your back.

Not leave you to watch their backs vanish before you.

What is it that the world says at times like this?

Be optimistic!

Look on the bright side!

But you can't find a bright side.

People change!

Change leads to growth!

But what has truly changed.

Is that what you really think?

Is that really where your mind wanders?

The realm of the mind is vast and without end.

Your obstacles don't have to exist here.

You can be brave,

Even if your anxiety rules you.

You can possess boundless fortitude,

Even if you confidence dwindles.

You can be the one to always come out on top,

Even if you can't seem to do anything right.

When reality fails you,

Or you feel that you have failed reality,

You can retreat into the fiction you create.

Fantasies can treat you better than harshness of reality,

Even if the escape will always be temporary.
