Broken Laws In the 1830s
1830s aura fills the stage
Plastic snow dances to the ground
Downstage littered with baskets with a fraudulent display of toys
A dancing figure deploys
A blanket of silence comforts the crowd
Musical melodies in whimsical manner
Soft beats hide behind a chorus of laughter
The second period falls into play as the
Swift motion of music plucks our dance
Tumbling off stage with a sight of glee
Rounded lights guide a trail to a cliff
A vile vehement smile towers above virgin eyes
A repulsive view behind a pink mask
Shredding children bit by bit
Leaving them strayed of needless desire
Needing less but achieving more
Broken laws in the 1830s…
The play goes on!
Booming parades and flawless cheers
Curtains fill the air and lights dim
Blue borns aroused in the humane
Left with golden gems but a scornful sight

This past year, I was invited to be part of the cast in an opera at Austin Opera. The experience was spectacular!! Although the good won over the bad moments, the bad moments followed me through my life. This poem is about the experience of the opera on opening night.
