summer soul
soft velvet cats droop mochi on my hardwood floor
sleepy tension in the air
we wanted this summer to be our best
now it seems impossible
fading horizons and early morning moons
sleepless nights for the thrill of it and
the desire to walk barefoot on concrete
with just you
under an unforgiving night sky, so big we decide that if we try
hard enough
if we burn our fingertips and jump
high enough
we might catch a star
i remember when our eyes used to sparkle with infinite possibilities
and when our actions had no reason
whatever happened to these bits of past?
drive me
down suburban roads to suburban houses
to freedom
hand me your precious heart
teach me how to let go
make my summer soul run again
