It's Where I'm From, Eh
My home's summer breeze brings sweet lilac,
The winter brings salty poutine.
A thick blanket of ice everywhere,
Warming up with tartines of smooth foie gras.
My passport is Canadian,
My pegged legged ancestors robbed ships for treasure,
Or stood tall as fearless Mi'kmaq guardians.
Although I do not claim their tribe.
My arteries are clogged with clear maple syrup.
My mouth is coated with rich sucre à la crème.
All of these mouth watering family recipes to choose from,
Luckily, my french tongue can decipher them.
My citizenship is red and white,
But specifically, my home is white and blue.
I am from Saint Jean Baptiste and fleurs de lys,
From Queues de castors and St. Hubert.
My last name is unpronounceable,
With vowels foreign to the American.
But where I'm from,
Lequient is easy as can be.
