Growth
It is hard to describe
Hard to imagine, empathize with
Unless you have experienced it yourself.
The unexpectedness is what hurts-
A strong gust of wind
Repeatedly blowing leaves off of a tree
Leaving it bare, cold, and empty
Emptiness is what consumes me
There’s a longing for something, someone
That just isn’t there
Out of reach
Now just a memory
Left wondering
Does he feel the same way?
Did I do something wrong?
The questions won’t stop
Heartache
Arguably the worst feeling
It lingers for days, weeks
Until one day
It doesn’t hurt anymore
That color
That song
That smell
That shirt
Doesn’t remind you of them anymore
Feels like freedom
A bird let out of its cage
Strength and happiness
There are new memories
To be made
New experiences
To be shared
New music to be listened to
With someone else
Someone who listens
Someone who cares
Someone who would never
Leave me feeling that way
The way that ate away my happiness
Distracted me from the world
Ripped me to pieces
But allowed me to grow
Strong
Strong as an oak tree
Planted many years ago
Once so delicate and fragile
Now sturdy and bold
Roots deep in the ground
