lift yourself, so you may lift others
my commitment to self
is <
my commitment to others
i hate giving others
a reason to be
disappointed in me
it drives me towards
worthlessness
and damages my self-esteem
much time has passed
before i finally accepted
it is okay to be selfish at times
self-care is not vanity
it is preservation
as i have come to learn
i cannot have a greater commitment to others
without maintaining
the greatest commitment to myself

The inspiration behind this piece stems from the personal mental acceptance I had to give myself to put myself first at times, so that I may still be there in the end for the people I care most about.
